The Thibodaux Playhouse, Inc. has announced the Children’s Summer Musical for this year, Noodle Rat Rotten Hat (Little Red Riding Hood), a musical comedy, with book, music and lyrics by Gary LaVigne.  The show will be directed by Dr. Stanley Coleman of Nicholls State University.

“As in past years, we want this to be a richly rewarding and strong theatre education experience for the youth who participate,” stated Stanley Coleman who directs his fourth children’s musical for the Playhouse. “Auditions are held to identify which children will best fit each character. However, there are roles for all children who audition; we turn no one away. This year’s show is a parody of several children’s fairy tales all rolled into one, with of course Little Red Riding Hood, the linguistically challenged wolf (note the title), Goldilocks, Hansel and Gretel, a large contingent of bears and other forest critters, and what fairy tale would be complete without a wicked witch?” Coleman said with a sly smile.

The auditions will be held May 22, 2010, at The Jean Lafitte Wetlands Cultural Center Theatre, 314 St. Mary St., in Thibodaux, LA., from 10:00 a.m. till 12:00 noon. Children unable to make this audition time will have an opportunity to audition the first day of rehearsal, June 1st. All speaking roles will be filled with youth who have no conflicts and make a commitment to attend every rehearsal and performance. Beginning June 1st, rehearsals will be held Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. till 2:30 p.m., except, Fridays, when rehearsals will finish at 12:00 noon. They will be held at The Jean Lafitte Wetlands Cultural Center Theatre each day except Wednesday, when the designated performers will meet at the Thibodaux Playhouse Building,“The Temple” at 1120 Caroline St., Thibodaux. Not all actors will have to attend the rehearsals at “The Temple.” Performances will be June 23, 24, 25, at 7:00 p.m. and June 26th and  27th at 2:00 p.m.

There is a $75 fee for each youth who wishes to participate. The fee covers registration, the theatre workshop, basic costume, make-up and a commemorative T-shirt.  The age range for participants is 8 years of age and older, through high school. Checks should be made payable to the Thibodaux Playhouse, Inc., and are payable at the audition or first day of rehearsal. The playhouse hopes to have a few confidential scholarships available for any youth whose families cannot afford the fee.
