TPI will be holding auditions TONIGHT (8/1) and TOMORROW NIGHT (8/2) at 7PM at the Thibodaux Playhouse rehearsal hall: 1120 Caroline St. in Thibodaux.

“In 1934, the renowned tenor Tito Merelli, known to his fans as “Il Stupendo,” is scheduled to sing the lead in Otello. Chaos ensues when Merelli’s wife, who has mistaken an autograph-seeker hidden in his closet for a secret lover, leaves him a “Dear John” letter. What follows is a chain-reaction of mistaken identity, farcical plot twists, double entendres, innuendoes, and constant entrances and exits through many doors. A rip-roaring comedy!”

(4 male, 4 female)

Performances: Friday and Saturday, October 7&8 and Thursday-Sunday, October 13-16, 2011. All performances are at 7:30pm except the Sunday show which is a 2pm matinee.

Max: (20′s to mid 30′s) Assistant to Saunders – An aspiring singer, his worst enemy is his own lack of self-confidence. He spends his time as a doormat to his future father-in-law and trying to convince Maggie that he is marriage material. (Singing Ability a Plus!)

Maggie: (20′s to 30′s) Max’s Girlfriend – pretty, quirky; a young woman who doesn’t want to settle for the seemingly mundane life she has with Max. She longs for an adventurous fling, one which will allow her to “hear bells.”

Saunders: (mid 50′s) Maggie’s father and the general Manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company – authoritarian; an uptight man with a short fuse, most of which he takes out on Max.

Tito: (30′s to 40′s) A World Famous Tenor known also to his fans as Il Stupendo – imposing; a womanizing Italian who loves Maria, but finds difficulty resisting the advances of the opposite sex, who seem to advance frequently and with considerable momentum. (Singing Ability a Plus!)

Maria: (30′s) Tito’s wife – Sophia Loren-type: busty, proud, and excitable; a passionate and temperamental Italian woman who is growing weary of her husband’s wandering eye (and body) for the opposite sex.

Bellhop: (age open) A bellhop – a highly energetic fan of Tito’s, who uses his occupation to get close to the international star. (Singing Ability a Plus!)

Diana: (mid 30′s) a soprano with the Cleveland Grand Opera Company – beautiful, sexy; a member of the opera company who has been “flinging her way through the whole cast.” Playing Desdemona opposite Tito, she thinks that he might be her ticket out of Cleveland into the big time.

Julia: (60′s) Chairman of the Opera Guild – over the hill, ex-diva, for whom the Cleveland Grand Opera Company is the center of her small, pretentious world.

NOTE: Max, Tito, and the Bellhop engage in operatic singing on a couple of occasions within the play. All of these roles will be cast with thebest actors, regardless of their singing abilities.

The Thibodaux Playhouse would like to invite you to audtion for its next theatrical adventure. This time its a hilarious musical comedy that has something for everyone. A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM is a multiple Tony Award winning musical with a laugh-out-loud book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbert and toe-tapping music by Stephen Sondheim.

The musical tells the bawdy story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door. The plot twists and turns with cases of mistaken identity, doors slamming, and a showgirl or two…

Auditions will take place April 18 & 19th at 7pm in the Thibodaux Playhouse Rehearsal Hall (aka The Temple) located at 1120 Caroline Street. Please perpare a short song to sing for the auditions. Sides will be provided to read during auditions, so no prepared monologues are necessary. The cast calls for sixteen actors so everyone, of any experience level, is welcome to attend.

Monday, April 18th and Tuesday, April 19th at 7:00pm

Eric has been involved with local theatre, both on and off stage, since the 1990s and is enjoying his recent return after a break. His favorite roles on the Thibodaux Playhouse stage include Booley (Driving Miss Daisy), Brindsley (Black Comedy) and Doc Porter (Crimes of the Heart). His directing gigs include One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Noises Off, and Pygmalion. Eric appreciates the support of work, family and friends.

A native of Napoleonville and resident of Thibodaux, Roger is employed by the City of Thibodaux Police Department. He is happy to have the opportunity to contribute to the community through theatre and would like to thank his family and friends for their support and encouragement.

Roger made his debut in multiple supporting roles in the Thibodaux Playhouse 2010 production Annie and is enthusiastic to land his first lead role. He wishes to dedicate his performance to his late father John Hernandez, Sr., whose fiery temper and fierce love for family inspired his portrayal of Salvatore.

CARMINE SOSTENUTO . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Paul Cook

Paul is a Mass Communication graduate of Nicholls State University and will be enrolling in graduate school in the Fall. A Thibodaux Playhouse regular, Paul has performed in All The Great Books Abridged, Sander’s Family Christmas, Don’t Drink The Water, Bless Me Father, Lucky Stiff and many more. He has acted in shows in Houma, Thibodaux and New Orleans since the mid 1990s and looks forward to theater every day more than else. As well as performing, Paul also enjoys helping behind the scenes in set construction for many area shows. Once again, Paul would like to thank his family for allowing him the opportunity to go to rehearsal for the past few months. Enjoy the show.

PAOLO BUSTEBRIZZIO . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Andy Simoncelli

An avid theatre goer, this is Andy’s first journey onto the stage and into the acting world. The closest he has come to performing is lecturing in front of his students at Nicholls State University. Simoncelli, who has a Ph.D. from LSU, teaches broadcast journalism in the Department of Mass Communication. He’s hoping that his students do not come see his performance since it will add to his nerves and may change their perspective of him. Dr. Simoncelli may be the teacher in the classroom, but he is definitely the student at rehearsal, where he enjoys watching the work of his more polished cast mates. Andy’s paternal grandfather was from Italy and his maternal grandfather fought in World War II, so he wishes to honor both of them with his performance; in addition to not embarrassing his son or the rest of his family.

Never Get Smart With an Angel is Adrienne’s third performance with the Thibodaux Playhouse. She was previously seen as Miss Willie in Curious Savage and Mrs. Rose Arnott in Enchanted April. Adrienne is very excited about the life-changing events happening since her involvement with this play and looks forward to welcoming her own “little Carmine” in less than nine months. Special thanks go out to family and friends for their love and support. Apologies to Laurie for missing out on so many Wednesday night buffets. Finally, Adrienne extends her deepest love for Ben, her “Kitty Litter King”!

LUCIA BUSTEBRIZZIO . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Daphne Hebert

Having produced and/or co-directed several of the more recent Thibodaux Playhouse productions, Daphne is happy to return to the stage as the ‘anything but angelic’ Lucia. A member of the Thibodaux Playhouse Board of Directors, Daphne has previously appeared in The Bad Seed (People’s Choice Award; Best Female Lead Award), Rumors, and Bless Me, Father (Best Supporting Female Award), as well as Le Petit Theatre de Terrebonne’s How the Other Half Love. She thanks her character Lucia and ever-patient friends and fellow Board members Angela Hammerli and Sheela Plater for introducing her to her newest hobby – knitting.

Daphne has been an early childhood teacher for 21 years, 18 of which have been for the Terrebonne Parish School System. She resides in Thibodaux with her daughter Marcel who shares her mother’s love for the theatre.

Donnie, a long time fan of the theatre, is making his Thibodaux Playhouse debut. Off stage, Donnie serves as pastor of First United Methodist Church where he gives original spoken word performances each week. He is married to April, and they have two children: Mollybeth (7) and John Harper (3). Donnie is extremely grateful for the support his family has given him during the past several weeks of rehearsal. He also wishes to thank Joyce Young for her persistent encouragement to step onto the stage.

Nevertheless he returns to the Thibodaux Playhouse stage for another show. He was seen previously in “Don’t Drink the Water,” “Bless Me Father” and “Lucky Stiff.” He has acted in shows in Houma, Thibodaux and New Orleans since the mid 1990s and he most recently joined the board of the Thibodaux Playhouse. Paul graciously thanks Daniel and the boys for their ability to get along without him for the past two months so that he could get along to rehearsal. Enjoy the show.

Blake is an English teacher at Central Lafourche High School and a columnist, reviewer and editor for the pop culture website www.CXPulp.com, where his weekly 2 in 1 Showcase podcast appears every Sunday. Blake has published two novels and several pieces of short fiction.

Thibodaux Playhouse, Inc. announces the first show of our 2010-2011 season, All the Great Books (Abridged)

In a failing public school, three teachers are called upon to re-mediate their class in the great works of literature of all time, from Wuthering Heights through Harry Potter. The audience takes the role of the class. While this silly supposition offers an evening of continuous laughter, the script also invites the audience to recall these timeless books and their own high school experiences.

Shows will be October 1-2 & 7-9 at 7:30 PM and on October 10 at 2PM.

For reservations, call: 985-446-1896
